Color Changes Over Time in Flooring

parkede renk değişimi görseli

Different light temperatures, the amount of light intensity exposed over time, and UV radiation from the sun can change the color of wooden floors and our perception of them. To avoid surprises after installing parquet flooring in your home, it’s essential to be familiar with the potential interactions of light and various wood types in advance.

The Unique Color Play of Wood

Parquet flooring is a natural product, and its color develops over time. The wood's color can darken, lighten, or change tone, emphasizing the character of authentic wooden floors. Color change in flooring is a natural process.

This natural color play results from the breakdown of lignin, an essential component of wood. Lignin protects tree cells from UV radiation and other effects. However, once the tree is cut, it no longer produces lignin. Since the amount of this component varies among different wood species, trees respond differently to light and sunlight:

- Oak flooring darkens slightly over time.

- Maple flooring turns a golden color.

- Beech takes on a darker, reddish hue.

- Ash darkens with a yellow indication.

- The red color of cherry flooring becomes more intense.

- Flooring made from walnut and acacia gains a golden-brown color, lightening and becoming more pronounced.
